Brow Lamination 101

Striving to have that sculpted and defined look for your eyebrows can be easily achieved with brow lamination. This is a professional chemical treatment that restructures the brow hairs and then sets them to your desired shape.

Having your brows laminated eliminates the need to brush and pencil in your brows each day, which halves the time you need to get ready each morning.

What you need to know

Brow lamination is NOT tattooing; it is a temporary solution that lasts 6 - 8 weeks, provided you follow all the aftercare steps.

How long your lamination and tinting lasts depends on your skin type. Typically, those with oily or combination skin might find that the tint does not last as long as 6 weeks. If this happens, you can return for a touch-up of the tint. However, to prevent damage to your brow hairs, it is recommended that you wait until the 6-week mark to have your brows laminated again.

To prevent any adverse effects or aggravate any existing issues, these are the common conditions or factors that would make you ineligible for brow lamination:

  • Eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis
  • Open wounds, lesions, and sores in the treatment area
  • Any contagious skin infections or diseases
  • Surgical scars or hypertrophic scarring around your brow area
  • Sunburn or peeling/flaky skin
  • Any known allergies to the products used.
  • If you have taken Roaccutane or Vitamin A derivatives within the past six months, you should also avoid brow waxing, which is part of the brow lamination service.
  • Having undergone microdermabrasion, chemical peels, laser treatments, skin needling, Botox, and tattooing two weeks prior.

What happens during your brow lamination service?

Following your initial consultation, your brow artist will determine the shape and tint that would suit your facial features.

Your brows will undergo a chemical process that softens the brow hairs before mapping, sculpting, and tinting.

Once completed, your brow artist will apply some conditioning treatment to ensure that your brow hairs receive the utmost care and optimise your brow health.

What's next?

The aftercare is just as important as the brow lamination process.

During the first 24 hours:

  • Ensure you avoid water from touching your brows.
  • Avoid swimming and going to the sauna, as this will cause your tint to fade and the brows to lose their defined shape.
  • Avoid touching, scratching, or rubbing your brows.
  • Avoid any brow makeup and skincare products that contain retinol and AHAs.
  • Wait at least 48 hours for treatments like tinting and waxing.
  • Do use condition treatments to ensure your brows stay healthy.
